Actor Kim Soo-hyun's side fully denied the allegations related to the late Kim Sae-ron and strongly criticized the bereaved family's claims as an unprecedented nationwide fraud based on fabricated false evidence.
On the 27th, Kim Soo-hyun's legal representative, lawyer Go Sang-rok (Law Firm Phil), said through official statements on YouTube channels that the essence of this case is evidence fabrication and that false reports spreading through domestic and international media have seriously damaged the actor's personal honor and life and have had negative ripple effects across the Korean Wave industry.
Lawyer Go emphasized in particular that there was absolutely no relationship between Kim Soo-hyun and the late Kim Sae-ron during her minor years. He pointed out that photos taken after she became an adult were presented as if they were evidence of a minor-era relationship, and that ordinary letters from military service were placed side by side and framed as love letters to create a false narrative.
He also said that a document the deceased left to an acquaintance became the starting point of this case, but that the deceased was extremely concerned about that document leaving her possession and kept it, and nonetheless the bereaved family used that document as the basis for continuing broadcasts, which allowed the false frame to emerge in the world.
He then urged the bereaved family to clearly state the basis for concluding that the counterpart in the 2016 and 2018 KakaoTalk conversations was Kim Soo-hyun, and said that if they are truly confident they should submit the entire conversation from the group KakaoTalk chat at the time to investigators.
Earlier, the bereaved family had held a press conference claiming that the late Kim Sae-ron dated Kim Soo-hyun from her minor years and released recordings and materials as evidence. Kim Soo-hyun's side rebutted that the recordings were fabricated using artificial intelligence (AI), and an expert analysis has been requested from the National Forensic Service.
Kim Soo-hyun's agency, Goldmedalist, has already filed a complaint against the bereaved family for violating the Stalking Punishment Act and for defamation. Lawyer Go said that rapidly advancing AI technology shows the risk that anyone can become a victim and urged the state to face the essence of this case and uncover the reality of the fabrication.
