Actor Ji Ye-eun, who had paused activities due to health issues, returned and shed tears on Running Man.
Earlier, a representative of Ji Ye-eun's agency CPN Entertainment told OSEN, "Ji Ye-eun has recovered her health and participated in the SBS variety show Running Man recording on the 20th. We ask for your continued support," in an official statement.
Ji Ye-eun had suspended activities to focus on medical treatment for about two months starting in August. At the time, her agency did not disclose a specific diagnosis but said, "She will devote herself to recovery through sufficient rest and treatment," yet the sudden absence led to various speculations about her health.
Regarding this, Yoo Jae-seok cautiously eased concerns on the Running Man episode aired on the 12th, saying, "There are talks that Ye-eun's condition is due to burnout, but that's not the case. She is just receiving treatment for a short time."
However, when a media outlet later reported that she had suspended activities due to hypothyroidism, the agency drew a line, saying, "It is personal medical information, so it is difficult to confirm."
Meanwhile, Ji Ye-eun's return was revealed in the Running Man teaser aired at the end of the episode on the 26th. Appearing on the program again after about three weeks, she said, "I'm overwhelmed after coming back after a long time," made her signature "ppung" expression, and actually welled up with tears, drawing attention.
In particular, she was shown reconnecting with members with an even stronger appetite, hinting at exciting performances to come in the broadcast.
A graduate of the acting department at Korea National University of Arts, Ji Ye-eun debuted in theater in 2017. She gained great love for the "Daegari Flower Field" character on Coupang Play's SNL Korea Reboot, and later expanded her presence as a regular member of Running Man and through various variety programs.
After a short but by no means light rest, Ji Ye-eun has started running again. With tears that convey the sincerity of being "overwhelmed," her comeback broadcast, showing a stronger Ji Ye-eun, is highly anticipated.
