Actress Jeong Ryeo-won shared her feelings about returning to the screen after seven years.
On the afternoon of the 27th at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, a press screening for the film The Woman in the White Car (director Go Hye-jin) was held.
The Woman in the White Car is a suspense thriller in which Do-gyeong (played by Jeong Ryeo-won), who arrived at the hospital carrying a bloodied Eun-seo (played by Kim Jeong-min), gives confusing testimony to police officer Hyeon-ju (played by Lee Jeong-eun), leading them closer to the culprit and the truth of that day that everyone remembers differently.
Returning to the screen in a film about seven years after Gate, Jeong Ryeo-won, asked about her feelings, said, "It's my first return to the screen in a long time and I didn't imagine it. It feels like receiving an incredibly large gift. While the score may be important to those who helped produce the film, for me, just having this opportunity to meet and present to the reporters today feels like a wish fulfilled, so I'm very happy," she said.
She said, "In fact, the film world felt very distant and unreachable to me. Once the chance unexpectedly came and I realized I could greet everyone again, I kept thinking that if you want and wish for something, it comes true," conveying her joy.
When asked about the difficulties of playing the character Do-gyeong, Jeong Ryeo-won said with a laugh, "My first filming scene was the one where I scream in the room, 'Sister, please open the door.' Director Go Hye-jin put the most difficult scene, the one that would demand the most discipline from actors, in the first cut, and I felt solemn and my discipline was set."
She said, "At first it felt like I had a big assignment, so my interpretation of the character accelerated and even if it was hard, understanding why this was put at the very start helped me focus more," and added, "And it was very cold. I remember trying to take off my shoes as late as possible. We had fun filming," lamenting the hardship of having to perform barefoot in subzero winter weather.
Meanwhile, The Woman in the White Car opens in theaters on the 29th.
