Singer Kim Hyun-ji, who rose to fame on 'Superstar K,' died 10 years ago.
Kim Hyun-ji was found dead along with two companions inside a passenger car parked in a parking lot in Iksan, North Jeolla, on Oct. 27, 2015.
The vehicle they were in was reported to have been rented in Gwangju, and police found the car after GPS tracking following a report from the rent-a-car company owner. The rent-a-car company owner reported it after the vehicle's return time had passed and the renter's cell phone was turned off.
Kim Hyun-ji appeared on Mnet's 'Superstar K' season 1 in 2009 and showcased her stirring vocal ability, but she was eliminated for being "too professional," leaving viewers disappointed.
After appearing on 'Superstar K,' she signed an exclusive contract worth hundreds of millions of won with an agency and released a 2010 mini album under the name Kim Soul, but she failed to achieve notable success. Later, Kim Hyun-ji challenged Mnet's 'The Voice Korea 2' in 2013.
After challenging 'The Voice Korea 2,' Kim Hyun-ji said, "After being eliminated from auditions, when I stood on stage I was suddenly overcome by fear. It felt like people weren't watching me. I wondered whether I was someone who should be allowed to sing," adding, "Because of my appearance, people saw me with a bad image," as she expressed her difficulties.
Afterwards, Kim Hyun-ji continued her music activities as an instructor at the MBC Academy Music School, but her death left people saddened. After news of Kim Hyun-ji's death was reported, Mnet mourned, saying, "She was a contestant with a great appetite for music; her passion and drive were difficult to fully capture on the broadcast. We offer our deepest condolences."
