Broadcaster and former announcer Kim Jae-won revealed the process of leaving "Morning Yard."
On the 25th broadcast MBN "Sokpuri Show Dongchimi" featured a talk on the theme of "retirement." On that day, guest Kim Jae-won opened up about his more than 30-year broadcasting career and the behind-the-scenes story of his resignation from KBS.
Kim Jae-won laughed, "After retirement, this is my first time sitting in a panel seat. For 30 years I had no place to tell my story," and said, "While hosting 'Morning Yard,' I used to wake up at 4:40 a.m., and I didn't know life without an alarm could be this happy."
He joined in 1995 as a KBS public recruitment announcer from the 21st class and served as a KBS announcer for more than 30 years. He proudly maintained such diligence that he did not miss a single appearance while hosting major KBS programs including 'Morning Yard' and '6 O'Clock My Hometown' for more than 10 years. But in July, suddenly announcing his honorary retirement after 30 years with the company surprised many.
Regarding the reason he left the long-running 'Morning Yard,' Kim Jae-won said, "The program reached 10,000 episodes as the first in Korea, and being there as the MC was truly an honor. But the burden was great," and added, "I spent more than 30 years in one workplace and experienced joy, anger, sorrow and pleasure. Each time the executive team changed they demanded changes, and the new executive team decided to replace the MC."
He continued, "At the time the atmosphere felt like 'who leaves first, who is driven out first,'" and said, "I was offered a replacement in February and had a clash of opinions with the production team. Still, because of my affection for KBS and 'Morning Yard' I thought I should keep my position, but then the honorary retirement notice appeared. Seeing that, I thought it was an opportunity given by heaven."
Kim Jae-won calmly made the decision to resign, saying, "I thought it was a senior's duty to hand it down cleanly to juniors." His successor is currently announcer Park Cheol-gyu, who leads 'Morning Yard.' Now free, Kim Jae-won has shown his presence by appearing on 'Dongchimi' and recently on tvN "You Quiz on the Block."
