Actor Jung So-min rewrote the texture of emotion in Would You Merry Me.
On Friday the 24th and Saturday the 25th, in the SBS Fri-Sat drama Would You Merry Me (writer Lee Hana / directors Song Hyun-wook, Hwang In-hyeok), Jung So-min portrayed livelihood-oriented designer Yoo Meri, igniting real feelings within a fake marriage and captivating living room audiences with delicate acting.
Would You Merry Me is a drama depicting the sweet-and-terrifying 90-day simulated newlywed period of two men and women trying to secure a luxury newlywed home prize.
In episode 5, Meri began collaborating with Myeong Sundan while hiding from Kim Woo-ju (played by Choi Woo-shik) that her ex Woo-ju (played by Seo Beom-jun) had contacted her. Then Meri unexpectedly encountered Woo-ju and Baek Sang-hyun (played by Bae Na-ra) together at the company, and at the sudden meeting she subtly signaled her fake husband Woo-ju, delivering wholehearted newlywed couple acting that drew laughs. In that scene, Jung So-min perfectly expressed a realistic "newlywed couple moment," showing the essentials of a romantic comedy.
Meanwhile, Meri came to share daily life with Woo-ju, and she sincerely celebrated his birthday, which he had not received from his family after losing his parents on a past birthday. Meanwhile, in episode 6 Meri attracted attention by reuniting with her ex Woo-ju. Especially, after an unexpected accident led Meri to nurse her ex Woo-ju, the ending in which she receives a confession from Woo-ju at the hospital completed a moment where emotional collision became excitement, leaving a lingering impression.
In this way Jung So-min deftly moves between romance and comedy, solidifying the overall work. With boundless emotional range and detailed modulation, she made the character "Yoo Meri" more three-dimensional, allowing viewers to naturally immerse themselves in the character's changes.
