'emotional balladeer' Jeong Seung-hwan is bringing a ballad craze.
Jeong Seung-hwan is serving as a judge on the SBS music audition program The Ballad of Us, which airs every Tuesday at 9 p.m.
Particularly, Jeong Seung-hwan, who appeared on an audition program as a contestant on 'K-pop Star', drew attention by joining The Ballad of Us as a judge after about 11 years.
In The Ballad of Us, Jeong Seung-hwan not only offers simple musical evaluations but also meticulously captures each contestant's emotional tremors, revisiting the charm inherent in ballads. "Ballad itself is a genre with nowhere to hide," Jeong Seung-hwan said, sometimes looking at contestants' performances warmly, sometimes sharply.
When an elementary school contestant said they practiced singing four hours every day, "Rather than using your voice a lot, I think it would be good to listen to a lot of music you like and spend time broadening your perspectives. For now, I hope you believe in your potential," he said with affectionate words.
Meanwhile, toward a contestant who chose his song 'Jaejari,' Jeong Seung-hwan joked, "You really are someone who knows how to listen to music," showing a unique sensibility that didn't miss his variety-show side.
Such meticulousness in penetrating the essence of ballad aligns with the musical direction he pursues. Jeong Seung-hwan will release his full-length album 사랑이라 불린 on the 30th. This full-length album, his first in about seven years, contains various scenes of love filled with Jeong Seung-hwan's own language. A total of 10 tracks are included, including Jeong Seung-hwan's self-composed songs.
Through 사랑이라 불린, Jeong Seung-hwan is expected to once again prove the true value of ballad. Deeper in emotion, Jeong Seung-hwan is poised to present the "essence of love" with sincere lyrics, showcasing his worth as an "emotional balladeer."
Meanwhile, after releasing the full-length album 사랑이라 불린 through various music sites at 6 p.m. on the 30th, Jeong Seung-hwan will hold a year-end concert, 2025 Jeong Seung-hwan's Goodbye, Winter, for three days from Dec. 5 to 7 at the Ticketlink Live Arena in Olympic Park, Songpa District, Seoul.
