SBS Friday variety show My Grumpy Secretary (hereinafter "My Grumpy Secretary") proved itself a genuine comedy hotspot with a caregiving farce that swings between laughter and crisis.
My Grumpy Secretary is a close-care road talk show in which actors Lee Seo-jin and Kim Kwang-kyu act as "one-day managers" to care for a star's day, and it became a hot topic online after surpassing 10 million cumulative views for its short-form clips within three episodes. In particular, on Netflix's "Today's Korea TOP series" it entered the top five for three consecutive weeks, creating a remarkable stir amid fierce competition in the variety content field.
On the broadcast on the 24th, leading actors Jang Ki-yong and Ahn Eun-jin of SBS's new Wed-Thu drama Dynamite Kiss appeared as "my stars." Just before departure, a crisis erupted when Lee Seo-jin lost a corporate card, plunging My Grumpy Secretary into tension.
Everyone panicked at Lee Seo-jin's words, "The corporate card is gone. I didn't use it…," and Kim Kwang-kyu revealed to the production team, "I've never seen him so flustered. His face completely fell. So he gets nervous, too. If I had lost it, I would have sworn like crazy." Fortunately, the card was found by Ahn Eun-jin herself and the incident was settled for the time being, and Lee Seo-jin showed a cool demeanor, saying, "It's okay because we found it right away even though it was lost. That's the problem—he's the one who never finds things."
The highlight of the broadcast took place on the drama set. When Ahn Eun-jin requested monitoring of her scene, Lee Seo-jin personally coached her acting, offering serious advice, "You need to connect the emotions a bit more naturally," and watching this, Kim Kwang-kyu said, "Seo-jin wasn't like that before, but as he gets older he feels like a thesis advisor," provoking laughter.
A surprise event was staged at the next location. It was decided that Lee Seo-jin and Kim Kwang-kyu would make an impromptu cameo in Dynamite Kiss, which Jang Ki-yong and Ahn Eun-jin were filming. Kim Kwang-kyu said, "Mixed emotions are overwhelming. It brings back a lot of old memories. Eun-jin used to be junior to me," and was moved. Lee Seo-jin revealed complex, subtle emotions when revisiting the filming location of his representative work Refuse from 21 years ago.
At the site, the idea of a "couple fighting while eating at a hotel restaurant" was added, and the two appeared as a couple in a romantic relationship, effectively playing the role of comic relief and adding a new layer of fun to the drama. The cameo scene featuring Lee Seo-jin and Kim Kwang-kyu can be seen in the original broadcast of Dynamite Kiss.
