The second season of 'Hyungsuda' focuses closely on a shocking medical accident.
Episode 14 of the E Channel original web variety show Hyungsuda season 2 (hereafter 'Hyungsuda2'), which will be released on the YouTube channel "Detectives' Chat" on the 24th, continues from the previous episode as the second part of "medical investigation Hyungsuda" featuring detective Kang Yun-seok and broadcaster Sa Yuri.
With K-pop Demon Hunters gaining popularity and foreign tourists visiting Korea surging, and K-beauty receiving global attention, Sa Yuri said, "Japanese friends also come to Korea and visit dermatologists a lot," noting, "Even after adding airfare, accommodation and hospital fees, it is cheaper than hospital fees in Japan." She also addressed the diet injections that have been in the news recently, saying, "Although they are said to have strong effects, many people report depression and side effects," and she highlighted the darker side as well.
Detective Kang Yun-seok, the lead investigator on medical accidents and a "medifiler" who investigated medical cases for about 10 years with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's medical investigation team, speaks about a patient death from a gastrectomy case that was reported in 2015. The victim was a man in his 50s from Australia who knew he had type 1 diabetes; when diet and exercise did not improve his condition, he was introduced through a medical tourism platform to a Korean doctor known as a top authority in morbid obesity treatment and traveled to Korea to undergo a major surgery removing 80% of his stomach.
However, after the surgery, pain persisted and his white blood cell count soared, and he underwent repeated suturing surgeries and reoperations. Over the course of a month, he underwent as many as six operations, but his condition worsened. In particular, despite the presence of many tertiary general hospitals around the hospital, the patient was repeatedly moved because of a claimed lack of intensive care unit beds, and was transferred to a hospital in Cheonan about 90 km from Seoul, adding to the mystery.
The attending doctor claimed he was the top authority in the field and that even if the patient had been in the intensive care unit there would have been no different options. That doctor was reported to have been the surgeon at the time of singer the late Shin Hae-chul's death, which caused shock. At the time, while a medical malpractice trial was underway, he resisted the opinions of domestic academic societies and insisted that because he had trained with the world's top authority, assessments should be obtained from foreign accredited institutions or experts. However, the response from the top authority he said he trained with reportedly concluded with a twist that surprised everyone. The shocking truth of the medical accident will be revealed on 'Hyungsuda2.'
