Singer Lim Chang-jung will remake Cult's classic "If I Hold You in My Arms."
On the 24th, his agency JG Star said Lim Chang-jung will release a remake of Cult's "If I Hold You in My Arms" at 6 p.m. on Nov. 6 through various online music sites.
"If I Hold You in My Arms" is the title track of Cult's first full-length album Welcome, released in 1995. Although 30 years have passed since its release, it remains one of the representative hits of the 1990s, loved across generations, with many artists still performing it on various broadcasts.
While preparing to release the remake, Lim Chang-jung said, "When 'If I Hold You in My Arms' was released, I wished it had been my song. It is still a favorite to sing," and he personally selected the song.
It is particularly meaningful that Lim Chang-jung, who debuted in 1995 and marks his 30th anniversary this year, is reinterpreting a hit song born in the same year as his debut. As one of the country's top vocalists, the fact that Lim Chang-jung will showcase 1990s sensibilities alone raises expectations for the song.
Earlier, Lim Chang-jung demonstrated his strength as a hitmaker with remakes when his 2023 release "The Luxury Called You" reached No. 1 on Melon's latest chart. Through "If I Hold You in My Arms," he preserves the original's authenticity while arranging tasteful modern sounds, delivering a warm yet fresh sensibility that evokes 1990s nostalgia and reaches new listeners.
Lim Chang-jung has released a total of 17 full-length albums to date and left many hits such as "Then Again," "A Glass of Soju," "Love Again," "The Guy That Is Me," and "You Who Resembles Me." He has also been active in film and broadcasting, establishing the word "multitainer" in the entertainment industry. Even after 2010, he released hits such as "The Love I Committed," "There Has Not Been a Day I Did Not Love You," and "That Uneventful Day," and he continues to be loved as the reigning "ballad emperor."
According to his agency JG Star, following the release of "If I Hold You in My Arms," Lim Chang-jung plans to accelerate activities in the second half of the year with overseas concerts and various broadcasting appearances.
