The late Jeon Yu-seong was awarded the Order of Cultural Merit, Ok-gwan.
On the 23rd afternoon, the '2025 Korea Popular Culture and Arts Awards' ceremony was held at the Haeoreum Theater of the National Theater of Korea in Jangchung-dong, Seoul.
Now in its 16th year, the 'Popular Culture and Arts Awards' is the government's highest honor in the field of popular culture and arts, established to raise the social status and creative motivation of popular culture and arts figures and to recognize those who contributed to the development of the popular culture and arts industry.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) conducted a public nomination for awardees from the public via the Korea Creative Content Agency website from April to solicit candidates in broadcasting, music, film and performance. Afterwards, a judging committee composed of experts in the relevant fields reviewed the period and degree of achievements and social contributions to select recipients of honors and awards.
On the day, the Order of Cultural Merit, Ok-gwan, was awarded to voice actor Bae Han-seong, singer G-Dragon (Kwon Ji-yong), and comedian the late Jeon Yu-seong. His daughter Jeon Je-bi personally went on stage to accept the award on his behalf, drawing attention.
Jeon Je-bi said, "Thank you for giving this precious award. I will not regard it as my father's final achievement but as a new memory."
Later, the MCs remembered the deceased, saying, "We learned that laughter is not a skill but a heart," and "A great star in the history of Korean comedy, the late Jeon Yu-seong, we will remember you forever."
Meanwhile, the late Jeon Yu-seong died last month at age 76 due to worsening chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
