Admission YouTuber Mimiminu (real name Kim Min-woo) said she is "preparing a legal response" regarding being sued for defamation.
On the 21st, Mimiminu posted a notice on her fan cafe saying, "A participant who appeared in content on my channel has sued me, and I am currently preparing a legal response to this."
Earlier, the Seoul Seocho Police Station received a complaint earlier this month from a person in their 20s identified as A asking for punishment of Mimiminu on charges of defamation and insult and launched an investigation.
A appeared on Mimiminu's YouTube channel in February last year but stepped down from broadcasts after allegations spread on online communities that "she stole her friends' laptop when she was a high school student." In response, Mimiminu held a live broadcast in which she read malicious comments directed at A, saying the allegations were true.
As a result, A sued Mimiminu on charges including defamation. According to the complaint, A claimed that she was diagnosed with bipolar affective disorder (manic depression) because of this and even made extreme attempts.
When the news was reported, Mimiminu posted directly acknowledging the lawsuit and announcing legal action. She said, "I also confirmed that the related article was reported today," but added, "Because this matter is currently under investigation, I will share my position after the procedures are completed and clear results are out. I would appreciate it if you could wait a little until then."
Mimiminu entered Korea University in the department of public administration after five attempts, and based on that experience she uploaded admissions-related content and gained wide recognition. Her channel currently has 1.87 million subscribers, and in addition to YouTube she appears on variety programs such as Channel A's Teachers and TV CHOSUN's My Way - Overinvolvement Club.
