The husband danced the choreography his wife created, and they defined an era. This is the story of Kim Tae-hyung, formerly of Firetruck, and choreographer Kim Kyung-ran. It is all the more tragic because the two, who shone brighter together, were separated by the unavoidable fate of death.
On the 22nd, according to the entertainment industry, Kim Tae-hyung's wife, Kim Kyung-ran, passed away. She was 62.
According to a person familiar with the matter, Kim Kyung-ran had been in poor health until recently and convalesced in the United States. She was known to have suffered severely from asthma, which has drawn widespread sadness.
Kim Tae-hyung and Kim Kyung-ran married in 1991 and have one daughter. On CBS's "Renew Me" in 2022, Kim Tae-hyung said, "Before I was in Firetruck, I was a partner in 'March of Youth,' and my wife was with Young Eleven's Young Stars, and within less than a year she became a choreography teacher at the broadcasting station during her freshman year of college. I was a troupe member and my wife was the teacher."
Kim Tae-hyung, who married during the peak of his popularity with Firetruck, said of the marriage process, "I thought my popularity would decline if I married, but after six years of dating, if I didn't marry I would ruin this woman's life. I decided to retire and get married first, so I announced the marriage in the newspaper."
Kim Kyung-ran was the behind-the-scenes contributor to Firetruck's popularity. On the 2012 program Good Day, Kim Kyung-ran said, "I participated in most of Firetruck's choreography. I also made the choreography for 'On a Call.' It was a simple choreography, but when Firetruck performed it, it looked great," expressing admiration for her husband's exceptional talent.
At the same time, Kim Kyung-ran said, "He once said he would tell people that I made it, but he didn't, which made me feel hurt. So now I'll confess it myself," showing a playful complaint about her husband.
The choreography Kim Kyung-ran created was superbly performed on stage by Kim Tae-hyung, and together they led Firetruck's heyday with perfect chemistry. That is why it is even sadder: the two were split by the unavoidable fate of death.
Meanwhile, Kim Kyung-ran's funeral hall has been set up in special room 6 of the Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital funeral hall in Gangseo District, Seoul. The funeral rite is at 6 a.m. on the 24th, and the burial site is Somang Hill.
