MBN's Wednesday-Thursday miniseries "First Lady" delivered an all-time shocking twist ending that hinted that Yoo Jin was the hit-and-run killer who caused the death of Ji Hyun-woo's former lover and Han Hwa-jin's biological mother.
The 9th episode of MBN's Wednesday-Thursday miniseries "First Lady" (writer Kim Hyung-wan, director Lee Ho-hyun, produced by Studio Gidam Co., Ltd., Artist Studio Co., Ltd., Roadshow Plus Co., Ltd.), which aired at 10:20 p.m. on the 22nd (Wednesday), recorded a nationwide rating of 1.6% and a peak minute rating of 2% according to Nielsen Korea.
First, thanks to Hyun Min-chul's (played by Ji Hyun-woo) tearful speech directed at members of the Peace and Freedom Party ahead of the special bill vote, despite Cha Soo-yeon's (played by Yoo Jin) continued persuasion and threats until the end, the unexpected passage of the "Do Tae-hoon special law" through the National Assembly occurred. Kang Seon-ho (played by Kang Seung-ho) and Yoon Ki-joo (played by Kim Ki-bang), who had been desperately waiting for the bill's passage, broke down in tears, but Shin Hae-rin (played by Lee Min-young) raised suspicion by saying in a phone call, "Everything has been arranged. Please proceed as is."
When Cha Soo-yeon, furious that Hyun Min-chul accused her of stealing a ledger over the bill's passage, went to his house, he had a private conversation with her while greeting his daughter Hyun Ji-yu (played by Park Seo-kyung). Cha Soo-yeon harshly pressed, "That lawyer Kang. What did you make him steal something for?" but Hyun Min-chul merely asked her why she opposed the special law. Without answering, Cha Soo-yeon retorted sharply, "You just had to trust me. But your choice was the special law," the tension rising between them.
At that moment, Hyun Ji-yu ran into the room and reported that Son Min-ju (played by Shin So-yul) and Lee Hwa-jin (played by Han Hwa-jin) had appeared for a TV interview. When Son Min-ju asked Cha Soo-yeon whether it was true she had been forced to give a fake interview as the president-elect's affair partner, Lee Hwa-jin, who had been silent, suddenly revealed the shocking fact, "I am the daughter of president-elect Hyun Min-chul," freezing not only Son Min-ju but also Cha Soo-yeon and Hyun Min-chul. Lee Hwa-jin recalled learning she was Hyun Min-chul's daughter at Um Soon-jeong's (played by Jo Young-ji) funeral, and when asked why she was only now revealing her biological status, she said, "I'm trying to catch the hit-and-run driver who killed my mother," focusing attention on the truth behind Um Soon-jeong's death.
After watching the broadcast, Hyun Ji-yu, confused, asked Cha Soo-yeon and Hyun Min-chul, "Is Lee Hwa-jin telling the truth?" and stormed out. Cha Soo-yeon demanded when Hyun Min-chul had known, and he confessed he found out the day he saw the ring on Lee Hwa-jin's pendant. At the same time, Cha Soo-yeon visited H Group Chairman Yang Hoon (played by Lee Si-gang) and asked whether he knew Lee Hwa-jin was Hyun Min-chul's illegitimate child. Yang Hoon revealed that Lee Hwa-jin had the same "RH negative" blood type as Hyun Ji-yu, shocking Cha Soo-yeon. Yang Hoon, who said he was supporting the protesters and the media to quell the special law issue, urged Cha Soo-yeon not to have a paternity test in case she was not the biological parent. He then said, "If my sister goes in, we'll all be dragged in," implying that Cha Soo-yeon and Yang Hoon were hiding the truth related to the special law.
Meanwhile, Hyun Min-chul confirmed a significant detail from Park Chan-do (played by Ryu Kyung-hwan), whom he had hired to look into information about Cha Soo-yeon and Um Soon-jeong's hit-and-run case. In the black-box footage Park Chan-do showed Hyun Min-chul, the time of Um Soon-jeong's hit-and-run and a yellow older model compact car presumed to belong to Cha Soo-yeon were captured at the foggy accident scene. The ending suggested that after Cha Soo-yeon opened the door from the driver's seat of the compact car and got out, she looked at the bleeding and collapsed Um Soon-jeong with a strange gaze, presenting an "ending hinting at Um Soon-jeong's murder," raising intense curiosity about whether Cha Soo-yeon was truly the killer who caused Um Soon-jeong's death.
