Actress Sung Yuri returns about two years after halting activities due to controversy surrounding her husband, former golfer Ahn Seong-hyun.
Former Fin.K.L member and actress Sung Yuri's variety activities have been halted since 2023. At the time she was meeting viewers through KBS2's "Can breakups be recalled?" but had to temporarily suspend activities because of controversy involving her husband, Ahn Seong-hyun.
Controversy over Sung Yuri's husband Ahn Seong-hyun broke out in August 2023. Prosecutors said Ahn Seong-hyun accepted tens of billions of won in money and valuables, alleging he helped Bithumb secure a listing by using his acquaintance with Mr. A at a domestic coin issuer, and sought an arrest warrant. Also, Yulia L, where Sung Yuri is co-CEO involved in cosmetics manufacturing and marketing, received an investment of 3 billion won from BUCKET STUDIO, which intensified suspicions because BUCKET STUDIO was Sung Yuri's former agency and was run by the sister of Mr. A, the real owner of Bithumb and a friend of Ahn Seong-hyun.
The agency said of the relationship between Ahn Seong-hyun and Mr. A, "It is true the two are acquainted but we do not know the details of their relationship. Knowing that Mr. A and BUCKET STUDIO were related and judging it did not match our corporate image, we immediately returned the investment."
As soon as the new year of 2024 began, Sung Yuri said, "I pray that the new year will be full of happy and smiling moments for all those who have always trusted and loved me from the same place. I wish there will be more occasions when those people smile because of me," and added, "And I fervently pray that the truth about the unfair and difficult things our family is going through will be revealed."
Sung Yuri expressed anguish, calling the matters related to her husband Ahn Seong-hyun "unfair and difficult," but she could not be free from her husband's controversy. No matter how much the actor herself claims to be uninvolved, or legally a victim, a husband's legal or moral troubles damage public trust and can limit activities such as advertising.
In December of that year, Ahn Seong-hyun was sentenced to four years and six months in prison at the first trial and was taken into custody. With her husband detained, Sung Yuri became responsible for nursing him and had to lead the household as its head. She resumed activities through home shopping. Later, in April, Ahn Seong-hyun was released from court detention after a bail request was granted. The court set bail conditions including payment of a 50 million won deposit and restrictions on residence, allowing Sung Yuri to finish nursing her husband.
After finishing nursing her husband, Sung Yuri will resume broadcasting activities through variety shows. OSEN reported on the 22nd that Sung Yuri will appear on tvN's "Going all the way," which premieres Nov. 4. "Going all the way" is a real health road variety show in which Sung Yuri meets citizens on a health bus that travels nationwide. Actor Han Sang-jin was selected as co-host with Sung Yuri. In a recently released teaser video, Sung Yuri flaunted her unchanged fairylike beauty.
Freed from the risk posed by her husband, Sung Yuri has resumed activities. Having shown deep empathy through "Healing Camp" and "Can breakups be recalled?," it remains to be seen whether she, who has shown such empathy, can spread her wings again.
