Actor Jo Yeon-hee left a strong impression with the tragic ending of Yang Mi-yeon, who lost everything after a single wrong choice, in Walking On Thin Ice.
In episode 9 of the KBS 2TV weekend miniseries Walking On Thin Ice, which aired on the 18th (directed by Song Hyun-wook / written by Jeon Young-shin / produced by Baram Pictures and Slingshot Studio), Yang Mi-yeon (played by Jo Yeon-hee) met a desperate end after drug use led to disaster.
The role of Yang Mi-yeon, played by Jo Yeon-hee, is Yoon Jin-hee (played by Seo Eun-sol)'s mother and a law professor who, on the surface, has a capable husband, a daughter and social standing, but deep inside is tangled with feelings of inadequacy and deprivation. Her obsession with maintaining a perfect life gradually destroyed her, and ultimately the desire to fill the emptiness in her heart led to a wrong choice.
Earlier, Mi-yeon, who had tried to expose the relationship between Kang Eun-soo (played by Lee Young-ae) and Lee Kyung (played by Kim Young-kwang), suffered a seizure and was taken to the hospital. After it was discovered that she had taken drugs, Mi-yeon was eventually dismissed from the university where she worked, pushed to the brink with divorce from her husband and a notice to appear before prosecutors.
Yang Mi-yeon's desire to protect a perfect family ultimately led her to ruin. Having given up everything, Mi-yeon lost consciousness and collapsed after an overdose. In this process, Jo Yeon-hee convincingly portrayed the inner life of a character standing at the edge of despair with hollow eyes and a broken expression, leaving viewers with a deep aftertaste.
In this way, Jo Yeon-hee realistically expressed the deprivation and isolation hidden behind a glamorous exterior and carried the weight of the drama firmly until the final moment. From the subtle psychological warfare with Eun-soo (played by Lee Young-ae) in the early episodes to the variations of emotions leading to jealousy, anger and then despair, he detailed them and convincingly completed the character's downfall.
Viewers who watched the broadcast also responded, saying, "She perfectly captured Mi-yeon's rampage and fall," "Thanks to Jo Yeon-hee the drama's tension was doubled," and "If not for Jo Yeon-hee's acting, Mi-yeon's narrative would not have been this vivid."
Meanwhile, Walking On Thin Ice, in which Jo Yeon-hee appears, will conclude with episodes 11 and the finale to be broadcast on the 25th and 26th.
