Actor Kang Tae-oh showed he is sincere about his acting.
Kang Tae-oh appeared in the November issue of Arena Homme Plus with a pictorial and an interview. In the upcoming drama Moon River, in which he plays a melancholic crown prince, he captured anguished expressions and a serious demeanor in the pictorial, like a "modern-day crown prince."
During the pictorial shoot, Kang Tae-oh, who repeatedly said "This is fun," showed his enjoyment, acts without shortcuts, and is an actor who loves the set. Asked about his own way of relieving stress, his answer was the same. "When I go to the set, my stress melts away. When I'm at home I have a lot of time to brood. I have to learn the script quickly, and I keep thinking about how to act and interpret the character. Then when I go to the set I can spread out what I've prepared. Shooting important scenes lifts my spirits. I feel better, like I've climbed over a big mountain."
Asked, since he has a habit of defining someone by a color, what the color of the role "I-gang" is, he said, "Crown prince I-gang is the color of river water. The sea or a river changes color depending on the weather. During the rainy season the Han River looks dull and gray with a somehow bleak feeling. On a fine autumn day like now or a sunny spring day it can look blue. I-gang is like that too. When he's with Dal-i he looks like a clear river, but in politically adversarial situations a frightening black sheen appears. He is a character expressed in various colors depending on the surrounding environment and people."
Then Kang Tae-oh answered when asked what color he himself is now. "Lately I've spent so much time immersed in roles that I haven't really thought about what color I am. It feels like the character stands out more than my presence, so I chose gray. (laughs)"
When asked the color of a role he answers without hesitation, but when asked what his own color is now he says "gray" after long consideration. Kang Tae-oh willingly hides himself like a shadow for the work.
