A singer and announcer in her 40s, known as A, who had been active in Jinju, South Gyeongsang, has been indicted and jailed on charges of beating and abandoning her teenage biological daughter, causing her death, shocking many. Questions continue about her identity. However, there is cautious reaction against excessive witch hunts.
On the 21st, the Changwon District Prosecutors' Office Jinju Branch, Criminal Division 2 (Director General prosecutor Lee Hye-hyun) said A was indicted and jailed on charges of killing her biological daughter and negligent homicide.
A is accused of beating her daughter B on the 22nd of last month at a residence in Namhae County, pouring hot water on her causing burns, and leaving the daughter in a vehicle for more than two days while she complained of pain.
A later took the daughter to a hospital, but medical staff found bruises and blunt force injuries across B's body and immediately reported it to the police. In the initial investigation A claimed, "When I came home after work I found my daughter unconscious," but questions were raised based on the scene circumstances and autopsy results.
Ultimately B died, and A is reported to have attended local events with her daughter up until just before the crime.
On the day before the incident, the 21st, A and her daughter reportedly participated together in a fire drill event hosted by the Namhae Fire Station. A had worked locally as a singer and announcer, ran a YouTube channel, and served as a promotional ambassador for various organizations. However, after the case became public she has been removed from all positions.

Some say, "I want to know who it is," but others call for caution, saying, "Unverified speculation and witch hunts can cause further harm."
