Actor Jin Tae-hyun addressed questions about adult adoption, saying that living together is a greater form of sharing than donations or sponsorships.
On the 22nd, Jin Tae-hyun posted a long message on his social media (SNS) along with a photo capturing a comment from an internet user.
The internet user wrote, "I hope the adoption culture will expand further thanks to the couple Jin Tae-hyun and Park Si-eun. I heard that Shin Soon-gyu, a visually impaired person on Wall Street in the United States, was able to take root and live in the U.S. thanks to the support of American adoptive parents, even though no legal relationship was established. In our still Confucian culture that values bloodline and family lineage, which is a major barrier that makes people hesitate about adoption, if one can play the role of adoptive parents even without legal procedures, it seems it would be easier for the adoption culture to spread," expressing support for the couple.
In response, Jin Tae-hyun said, "I happened to see this comment elsewhere, and it is exactly the path our couple wants to take," adding, "Rather than sponsorship, being family who share meals together feels like a life of truly sharing."
Jin said, "I wonder whether those small but negative thoughts—like why make only adults family, why not just offer sponsorship—might be shaping our society today," and emphasized, "I believe that sharing life together, giving our time, and inviting others into our home is a better path than any tremendous donation or sponsorship. We are already working hard on sponsorships as well."
Jin said, "We live hoping people will do well. We are not particularly kind or virtuous, but we want to live at least a little upright," and added, "As someone who believes in God, although I do not fully live out the words 'Love your neighbor as yourself,' I think living while making the effort is what it means to be a child of God."
He continued, "In my youth I lived with too much hardship, difficulty, and naivete. So now I want to live helping, even a little. We are also receiving a lot of love," and said, "Going forward, instead of flaunting houses, luxury brands, or money, I will boast of my wife, neighbors, and family. Because that is the only wealth."
Jin Tae-hyun married actor Park Si-eun in 2015 and adopted Park Davida, then a college student, in 2019. Early this year, he said he decided to take Han Ji-hye, who is active as a marathoner with the Gyeonggi Provincial Government team, as his daughter.
