Hollywood actress Emma Stone (36) attended the screening of the film Bugonia in New York, showing off her unchanged beauty. However, among some fans reactions poured in saying "her face looks too different," rekindling the "new face" controversy, the Daily Mail reported on the 22nd (local time).
According to the report, Emma Stone, who appeared at the Bugonia premiere at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York on the 21st, appeared in a sheer white Louis Vuitton gown. The dress with gray stitching fit tightly across the upper body, contrasting with a voluminous skirt.
Natural makeup with a reddish tint, striking blue eyes and a taut facial line that looked lifted drew attention. Her hair tied up in a neat bun with curtain bangs further emphasized the contours of her face.
Actors Alicia Silverstone, Lily Sheen and Jesse Plemons, who shared the stage with her, also lit up the red carpet. Director Dave McCary, her husband, attended the event but did not accompany her on the red carpet.
The "new face" controversy around Emma Stone erupted shortly after photos of her with BLACKPINK member Lisa were released at Paris Fashion Week last month. At the time, her more defined features and smooth skin were a topic of conversation.
Later, when she appeared at the London premiere with skin that looked lifted and a youthful appearance, online reactions continued saying "it looks taut like she got Botox," and "her expressions are less natural than before."
Emma Stone has not issued an official statement on the controversy so far. A plastic surgeon, in an interview with foreign media, offered a cautious opinion that "skin care and lighting effects alone can be enough to make someone look different."
Bugonia is the third film in which Emma Stone has worked with director Yorgos Lanthimos, with whom she collaborated on The Favourite and Poor Things.
The film is an English-language remake of Jang Joon-hwan's 2003 South Korean film Save the Green Planet!, and is a satirical sci-fi dark comedy about two men who kidnap an alien CEO intent on destroying the Earth. Emma Stone plays CEO Michelle Fuller.
Bugonia is scheduled to open in North America on the 31st, Halloween.
