Comedian Lee Kyung-kyu was summary prosecuted with a fine on charges of driving while under the influence of drugs.
On the 22nd, according to legal sources, the Criminal Division 5 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Director General prosecutor Kim Ji-young) summary prosecuted Lee Kyung-kyu the day before (21st) on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act and imposed a fine of 2,000,000 won.
Summary prosecution is a procedure that, for relatively minor offenses, imposes fines or fines through written examination without going through a formal trial.
Lee Kyung-kyu is accused of driving while under the influence of drugs in the Nonhyeon-dong area of Gangnam District, Seoul, last June. At the time, he was reported on suspicion of theft after mistakenly driving someone else's vehicle with the same model. Both a field reagent test conducted by responding police and a thorough examination by the National Forensic Service confirmed positive reactions.
At the time, his agency explained that Lee Kyung-kyu had been taking medication for panic disorder for more than 10 years and that a psychotropic drug was detected in the drug test, and during the police investigation Lee Kyung-kyu said, "I did not fully recognize that I should not drive after taking medication for panic disorder," and "I will be careful going forward."
The current Road Traffic Act prohibits driving a motor vehicle when it is difficult to drive safely due to drugs or other substances.
