A, who had worked as a model and actor, was revealed to be a recruiter for a local Cambodian criminal organization. She is accused of luring Korean women to the area and selling them before taking money and valuables.
According to a DONG-A ILBO report on the 21st, A approached a woman in her 30s, B, last year in April saying "Japanese interpretation is needed locally in Cambodia." The two later left for Phnom Penh, but upon arrival B was dragged to an APT. near Sihanoukville, had her phone and passport taken and was assaulted by three men.
The criminal organization forced B to appear in adult broadcasts and reportedly beat and insulted her if she failed to meet the required amount. Evidence also surfaced that A received about 5 million won as payment for handing B over.
B was dramatically rescued with the help of her family and local Korean residents. A verification photo she sent to her family immediately after arriving in Cambodia became a clue. However, according to the victim's testimony, screams of "help me" were heard from another nearby room, raising the possibility of additional victims.
Recently, kidnappings and detentions targeting Koreans have been occurring one after another in Cambodia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has designated some areas as travel-restricted zones, and the government is conducting an on-site audit related to this case.
