MBC's new daily drama "The First Man" has finalized the casting of Ham Eun-jung, Yoon Seon-woo, Park Geon-il and Kim Min-seol, completing preparations for its full-scale launch.
MBC's new daily drama "The First Man" (planned by Jang Jae-hoon / directed by Kang Tae-heum / written by Seo Hyun-ju, Ahn Jin-young / produced by MBC C&I, DK Entertainment) is a drama that depicts a deadly showdown between a woman who, for revenge, lived another person's life and a woman who, for her own desire, stole another person's life. Following earlier casting confirmations of Ham Eun-jung and Oh Hyun-kyung, Ham Eun-jung, Yoon Seon-woo, Park Geon-il and Kim Min-seol have joined to lead a mismatched romance amid the whirlpool of fate, heightening expectations among prospective viewers.
Ham Eun-jung, who recently announced her marriage in November to director Kim Byung-woo, who is eight years her senior, receiving many congratulations, celebrated another happy occasion with the announcement of her drama casting. The two are scheduled to be wed on the last day of November.
First, Ham Eun-jung, who announced a dramatic acting transformation by playing two roles, firmly anchors the center of the story as the spirited, righteous Oh Jang-mi and the arrogant troublemaker Ma Seo-rin, alternating between two characters at opposite ends of the spectrum. The twins Oh Jang-mi and Ma Seo-rin, who come to live completely different lives as if by fate's joke, become entangled with warm-hearted lawyer Kang Baek-ho (played by Yoon Seon-woo) and prickly chef Kang Joon-ho (played by Park Geon-il), the two brothers, and fall into a whirlpool of conflict where the future is unpredictable. Ham Eun-jung is expected to fully differentiate the twin characters with completely different personalities, from realistic everyday acting to the reckless traits of a chaebol granddaughter, portraying them three-dimensionally.
Next, Yoon Seon-woo takes on the role of the cheerful and warm lawyer Kang Baek-ho. With a tall appearance and a kind personality that makes him popular with everyone, he possesses an overflowing sense of justice that prevents him from walking past neighbors in need or unfortunate people without helping. He has a pleasant appearance and versatile charm, but in fact he has never experienced true love and is a "born single," a surprising trait. After meeting Oh Jang-mi (played by Ham Eun-jung), he falls into a passionate love for the first time in his life that makes him willing to throw away everything. Yoon Seon-woo, who has earned steady love from viewers through consistent acting in various works, will show a charming, devoted love with his distinctive gentle charisma and delicate emotional acting.
Park Geon-il plays Kang Joon-ho, the older brother of Kang Baek-ho and the head chef of a restaurant. Kang Joon-ho is a cold city man with no sense of humor who never meddles in others' affairs and hates being involved in other people's matters. He is the complete opposite of his younger brother Kang Baek-ho. But after meeting Oh Jang-mi, cracks begin to form in his previously frozen heart and he starts to change, ultimately loving with all his heart. Park Geon-il, who has built solid skills across drama, theater and musical, is drawing attention to how he will portray Kang Joon-ho.
Finally, Kim Min-seol injects tension into the drama by playing Jin Hong-ju, a Dream Hotel employee and the embodiment of ambition. Jin Hong-ju, who cannot tolerate losing to others, is quick-witted and meticulous in her calculations, and is the sort of relentless person who will stop at nothing to achieve what she wants. Unable to win the heart of Kang Baek-ho, who only looks at others, Jin Hong-ju is always anxious and views the woman Baek-ho loves, Oh Jang-mi, as an eyesore, amplifying conflict in the love square and creating tension. Kim Min-seol, who takes her first leading role through this work, is expected to leave a strong impression on viewers by vividly portraying the Jin Hong-ju character armed with obsession and ambition.
With four actors—Ham Eun-jung, Yoon Seon-woo, Park Geon-il and Kim Min-seol—each bringing distinct charms, "The First Man" is expected to make viewers' hearts race with a fateful and deadly romance. Viewers will inevitably look forward to how the intertwined relationships of the four characters will unfold into an exciting story amid a whirlpool of revenge and desire, what choices of love and fate each character will make, and the unpredictable developments that will play out each episode.
Meanwhile, MBC's new daily drama "The First Man" is scheduled to air following "The Woman Who Swallowed the Sun".
