Prince Brewing, a club pub operated by the China-affiliated Cambodian corporation Prince Enterprises (Prince Holdings), which has been pointed to as behind crimes in Cambodia, has closed. The club was once in the spotlight when former BigBang member Seungri visited.
On the 21st, CBS NoCut News reported that Prince Brewing closed and is currently being prepared for a re-opening after being acquired by a new owner. Prince Brewing was previously visited by Seungri. In January last year, at a local event in Cambodia hosted by Prince Brewing, Seungri said, "When I said I was going to Cambodia, my friends told me not to go. They asked if it wasn't dangerous," and then opened his remarks by saying, "Now I'll tell those guys. Eat shit."
Seungri then said, "And tell them to shut up and come here to see what kind of country Cambodia is. Cambodia is the greatest country in Asia," and added, "Someday I will bring G-Dragon here," which sparked controversy.
Notably, Seungri danced to "Good Boy," sung by G-Dragon and Taeyang, and those at the scene were shouting "G-Dragon."
When the incident became known at the time, a cold public reaction followed. In this context, the fact that the recent event had been held at Prince Brewing has resurfaced and drawn attention. The Prince Group is suspected of being behind the Taizadongji, which commits organized human trafficking and illegal confinement. The group's chairman, Chen Z, is under sanctions by the United States and the United Kingdom for allegedly leading crimes in Cambodia.
However, the relationship among Seungri, Prince Brewing and Prince Holdings is not known. Prince Brewing is known as a brand under Prince Holdings, but locally it is said to often operate simply as a brewery-cum-pub brand.
Meanwhile, Seungri was identified as a central figure in the 2018 Burning Sun scandal, which caused social uproar. He was later sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison on charges including arranging prostitution for investors, violating foreign exchange transaction laws, embezzlement in the course of duty, and overseas gambling involving around 2 billion won, and was released in February 2023.
