Modern music singer-songwriter Song So-hee, who has pioneered her own genre, sings about life's cycles and recovery.
Song So-hee will release her second EP Re:5 at 6 p.m. on the 21st on various music streaming sites. After formalizing the release of Re:5, Song So-hee sequentially released the album cover image, concept photos, track preview, and music video teaser, raising fans' expectations.
Completed with production support from the CJ Cultural Foundation's Tune Up, Re:5 is Song So-hee's new album about 1 year and 6 months after her first EP, Air Dance, released in April 2024.
In particular, the composition that unfolds the five elements across five different tracks stands out. Re:5 includes a total of five tracks: starting with Banjjak Playground (Ashine!), which follows the nature of wood (木); Broken Things, which carries the flowing nature of water (水); the first title track Hamba Kahle, which has the nature of earth (土); A Blind Runner, which signifies fire (火); and finally the second title track Alaska's Love–Sun, which has the nature of metal (金).
The music video for the first title track Hamba Kahle, released along with the EP, was produced with inspiration from the tale of Princess Bari. Song So-hee appears as a guide of purgatory, which connects the living and the dead, healing the deceased and leading them to the next world. Through a purgatory world imbued with the symbolism of the five directions and five elements and a performance that comforts the deceased, the visuals convey that death is not an end but the beginning of another journey. Not only the story but also the dance performance stands out. With the participation of the SAL dance team and support from SAL artistic director and choreographer Bae Jin-ho as movement director, the work's completeness was enhanced.
Having started music early in life with the sound of Gyeonggi folk songs, Song So-hee has steadily expanded her genres based on the resonance of traditional music amid constant musical contemplation, releasing the 2022 single Journey to Utopia, the 2023 singles Infodemics and Asurajang (The World Is a Maze), the 2024 EP Air Dance, and the single Not a Dream, consecutively cementing her identity as a modern music singer-songwriter.
Meanwhile, Song So-hee's second EP Re:5 will be released at 6 p.m. today (the 21st) on various music streaming sites. Song So-hee is also scheduled to hold solo concerts on Dec. 6 and 7.
