Celebrities have expressed discomfort and continued to voice their convictions over W Korea's breast cancer charity event.
Earlier, YouTuber Jung Sun-ho, who has 1.83 million subscribers, uploaded a video to his channel on the 20th titled "I played the song 'Body' for my mother who had breast cancer surgery."
He listened to Park Jae-beom's "Body," which performed onstage at the W Korea event with his mother, and said, "It's a campaign — do they sing a song like this?" expressing his displeasure. Jung Sun-ho directly criticized, "Can someone be this thoughtless? If you gather celebrities and throw a party, does that automatically improve awareness? The organizers bear great responsibility."
Kwon Min-a, a former member of AOA, also left a lengthy post on her social media on the 19th expressing her personal reflections on the event. She said, "My father passed away from pancreatic cancer and my older sister has lived for years in fear of breast cancer," sharing the hardships of a family of cancer patients. She added, "If they truly cared about patients, they would not have held such a booze party," and said, "The moment I saw the glamorous photos with the name 'breast cancer' attached, I felt uncomfortable and distressed."
Earlier, W Korea said it held "Love Your W" at the Four Seasons Hotel in Seoul on the 15th to emphasize the importance of early breast cancer screening, but on site the revealing outfits, champagne party and inappropriate song selection provoked controversy. Among internet users, criticism poured in with comments such as "Is this a celebrity hunting bar?" and "11 hundred million won donated over 20 years? The Pink Run by ordinary people raised four times that."
As the controversy intensified, W Korea issued an apology statement saying, "We take seriously the criticism that the program and proceedings were inappropriate in light of the campaign's purpose."
With not only celebrities but also influencers speaking out publicly, the aftershocks surrounding this W Korea breast cancer event are not expected to die down easily.<
