Actor Lee Jang-woo candidly shared the story behind his meeting, dating and proposal with actress Jo Hye-won as they prepare to marry in November.
On the 19th, Lee Jang-woo appeared on the SBS variety show My Little Old Boy and, while talking with actor Yoon Si-yoon and broadcaster Jung Joon-ha, recalled his first meeting with Jo Hye-won.
He said, "Hye-won appeared as an extra in the drama where I was the lead, and she really shone then. 'Who could be the boyfriend of a woman like that?' I thought. With the intention of at least trying, I immediately made a move."
But he said he did not ask for her contact information on set. Lee Jang-woo said, "She only did the extra shoot and left, so I searched around social media to find her account," and explained, "I first contacted her to thank her for appearing in the drama and said I wanted to buy her a meal. Then I bluntly asked, 'Do you have a boyfriend?'"
And the reply came two days later. At first he worried, 'Will she see me as a strange person,' but when she said she did not have a boyfriend, Lee Jang-woo sent his phone number without hesitation, and they later started dating in earnest after having a meal at a café in Namyangju.
He also said they decided to get help from acquaintances, and that the host would be Kian84 and the congratulatory song would be performed by Lee Jang-woo's cousin, singer Hwanhee, who had already been confirmed.
Meanwhile, during the broadcast Jung Joon-ha jokingly told him, "Don't get married," creating a lively atmosphere. Lee Jang-woo revealed he had once joked at an awards ceremony, "I live alone; can we hold it off a little longer?" so he admitted he had been somewhat hesitant before the proposal.
Friends teased him, saying, "Are you out of your mind," but he said he ultimately obtained the mother-in-law's blessing and is steadily proceeding with wedding preparations.
