Hollywood actress Kristen Bell (Kristen Bell, 45), known for voicing Anna in the animated film Frozen and for the U.S. series The Good Place, is being criticized for an anniversary post on her 12th wedding anniversary.
Bell recently posted a photo with her husband Dax Shepard (Dax Shepard) on social media, writing, "Happy 12th anniversary to the man who said he would never kill me. Many men have killed their wives at some point, but he said he would not kill me even if he were strongly tempted."
On the 20th (local time), the British Daily Mail reported that the remark was made during National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and internet users strongly criticized it, saying, "The timing and context are completely inappropriate," and "It makes light of domestic violence."
One online commenter pointed out, "Women around the world are killed by their husbands or partners every 10 minutes, so posting something like this is crazy," and another expressed anger, saying, "No month allows for jokes like this."
Some fans demanded deletion, saying, "It may have been written as humor, but it can be a Trigger for victims of violence." Bell has not yet taken any particular position on the controversy.
Meanwhile, Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard married in 2013 and have two daughters, and they have been loved by fans for their candid relationship and parenting stories. But this "murder joke" controversy is expected to cause considerable damage to the couple's cheerful image.
