Singer Kim Heung-guk is settling political controversies and returning to his primary profession as a singer.
On Oct. 20, Kim Heung-guk told the public through his agency Daebak Planning, "From now on I will stand by the people only with songs and entertainment," adding, "Politics was not my path. I give people laughter and I am happiest when singing together. That is the real Kim Heung-guk."
Kim Heung-guk is well known as an open supporter of former president Yoon Suk-yeol. He has consistently participated in various rallies and remarks defending the former president since late 2023. On Jan. 1, he said at a rally in front of the presidential residence, "My family worries about words like martial moth and rebellion moth. But I will not back down," and he sang "Horangnabi" on site, drawing cheers from conservative supporters.
So at the April screening of the film "One More Day," Hyun-young told Kim Heung-guk, who attended, "Are you going into politics, oppa? Don't do that. Just do 'Horangnabi'," criticizing him. But in June, ahead of the presidential election, he declared his open support for then People Power Party presidential candidate Kim Moon-soo, raising his voice, "More right-wing entertainers need to come forward. Right-wing entertainers are mood makers."
Kim Heung-guk has changed. "I will set aside political talk now," he said, expressing his intention to return to his natural place as an entertainer. He is currently preparing to release a new song and open a personal YouTube channel. The new song is reported to be a dance track that modernizes the joyful energy of his past hit "Horangnabi."
Regarding this, Kim Heung-guk's side emphasized, "Because of political leanings, the true image of singer Kim Heung-guk was obscured, but through this decision he intends to return to the center of music and entertainment." Kim Heung-guk himself vowed, "By combining new musical activities, I want to become the nation's 'Horangnabi' once again. If I can give the people laughter and hope again, that will be the start of the second act of my life."<
