The HYBE original story webtoon that collaborated with the group ILLIT, "SUMMER MOON: THE QUPRIDS" (hereinafter Summer Moon), will be serialized not only in Korea but also in six global regions including the United States and Japan.
HYBE said the webtoon Summer Moon will be translated into the languages of each region, including the United States, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan and Indonesia, and released through Naver Webtoon global services on Oct. 20 and 21 (local time). The United States, Taiwan and Thailand will be released on Oct. 20, Japan and Indonesia will be first released on Oct. 21, and France will be released in November.
Summer Moon is a K-school fantasy series that depicts the chaotic daily lives of five ordinary high school girls who become "magical girls" ahead of the "Summer Moon festival" held at their school. The webtoon serialized ILLIT's message, which has targeted the tastes of the 10-20 generation with sincere yet bold sentiment, and showcased magical girl characters created with the members as motifs, drawing strong responses from not only fans but also general webtoon readers as soon as it was released.
Summer Moon, which launched domestically on Aug. 4, immediately ranked No. 2 in the women category and No. 3 overall on Naver Webtoon's "Trending Top 30" chart after its release, and No. 4 in the women category and No. 5 overall on the "real-time new release ranking" chart, among other high rankings. As soon as it was released, Summer Moon, which was noted as an anticipated work, received an influx of official serialization requests from overseas fans in various languages, leading to a rapid push for simultaneous launch in six global regions.
A HYBE representative said the enthusiastic response from readers when Summer Moon launched domestically was the driving force behind the rapid push for the global launch, and said the preference of global readers who have already experienced HYBE original stories through series such as "Dark Moon" translated into anticipation for Summer Moon.
