Famous Japanese actress Takahashi Tomoko died in a hit-and-run traffic accident.
On the 18th, her agency, One Production, released an official statement on its website saying that Takahashi Tomoko had died in a traffic accident. She was 39.
The agency said, "Our actress Takahashi Tomoko died in a traffic accident in the early hours of the 16th," and added, "This is so sudden that we still cannot believe it. It is hard to accept. Takahashi Tomoko was a founding member of our company and performed passionately. She was responsible and warmhearted and was loved by many. We are truly grateful for the achievements she left behind."
They added, "In accordance with the wishes of the bereaved family, the funeral will be held with only family and close relatives in attendance," and "We deeply thank everyone who gave warm support, encouragement and help during her life."
Earlier reports said Takahashi Tomoko was riding a bicycle in Nerima Ward, Tokyo, at about 2:45 a.m. on the 16th when she was hit from behind by a passenger car and died. Bystanders found Takahashi Tomoko lying on the ground, but she was already dead.
According to local reports, police said the driver was drowsy, and on the 17th they arrested the suspect on charges of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Acts of Driving a Motor Vehicle Causing Death or Injury (negligent homicide) and violating the Road Traffic Act (hit-and-run).
Takahashi Tomoko, born in 1986, was from Hokkaido and worked mainly on stage, and appeared on TV Asahi's Emergency Interrogation Room and TV Tokyo's Last Doctor.
