K-pop girl group AOA alum Kwon Min-ah recently shared her thoughts on a W Korea breast cancer event held not long ago.
On the 19th, Kwon Min-ah wrote a long post on her social account. Kwon Min-ah said "My father passed away from pancreatic cancer, and my older sister has been living in fear for years because of breast cancer. It was discovered at stage 3, they removed a large portion, she lost all her hair from chemotherapy, gained weight from side effects, and the treatment costs were enormous," she said, opening up.
Kwon Min-ah said "Pancreatic cancer is so difficult to treat unless a miracle happens, but on the other hand some people seem to think breast cancer is very easily treated if detected early. I haven't experienced it myself, but just watching from the side is exhausting, heartbreaking and saddening," she said, sharing her thoughts as a family member of a cancer patient.
She said "If they truly, sincerely worried about breast cancer patients, thought about them and even empathized with their families' feelings, that kind of alcohol party would never have been held. I feel that charitable giving is admirable regardless of the amount and that the action itself can be worth emulating, but seeing flashy, glamorous, fun-looking photos under the title 'breast cancer' gave me a lot to think about and made me uncomfortable the moment I saw them. I was distressed. Who am I to dare to say anything, but cancer patients and their families get hurt by even small things. Please understand, for sure," she concluded.
At the W Korea breast cancer event held not long ago, numerous stars' remarks had nothing to do with the breast cancer event, and videos surfaced showing them enjoying challenges with premium champagne and especially cheering for Park Jae-beom's 'body' performance that exposed the 'chest' area. Netizens criticized sharply, saying "Is this a celebrity hunting pub?", "They just spent money on celebrities and held a private social gathering," and "1.1 billion won donated over 20 years? Pink Run, ordinary people raised four times that amount," but W Korea said "The 'Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign: Love Your W' aimed to raise awareness of early breast cancer screening, and in light of the campaign's purpose we acknowledge criticisms that the composition and conduct were inappropriate and take this seriously. We apologize."
Meanwhile, Kwon Min-ah debuted with AOA in 2012 but left in 2019 and later accused leader Jimin of bullying her.
