Director Yoon Je-kyun raised expectations for International Market 2.
The KBS 1TV movie talk show Life Is a Movie, which airs tonight (19th), marks the 30th anniversary of the Busan International Film Festival and takes time to look back at films that represent Busan with director Yoon Je-kyun, who is "a filmmaker loved by Busan."
On the show, Yoon, who created the 20-million-audience legend with Haeundae and International Market, revealed the behind-the-scenes story of why he insisted on the film title International Market despite opposition from those around him, wanting to let the whole nation know about Busan's International Market, which holds his memories.
Yoon said, "There were many suggestions to change the film title to something more global, but for me International Market is my hometown itself," explaining why he stuck with the title International Market, which fully captures the smells of Busan's alleys and the warmth between people.
Yoon also left a hint about his next project, International Market 2, which is currently in preparation. He raised expectations by saying, "In the script stage, the general public monitoring score came out better than for the first film."
When host Lee Jae-sung asked, "Do we need to prepare handkerchiefs again this time?" the film critic Almost None replied, "Handkerchiefs won't be enough. You'll need at least a whole pack of tissues!"
Following Hwang Jung-min from the first film, actors Lee Sung-min and Kang Ha-neul were cast as father and son, and curiosity is rising about what kind of film International Market 2, which will deal with generational stories, will be.
Meanwhile, Yoon Je-kyun's unexpected sense of humor also shone. When Almost None, who has sharply criticized his work, became embarrassed, Yoon mimicked the famous line "I know~ I know~" by Kim Pan-ho (played by Cho Jin-woong) from the film The War on Crime, wiping out the scene.
At the end of the broadcast, Yoon said, "This is the most chaotic but sincere interview I've ever done. Today will be remembered for a long time," drawing attention to today's program that combines sincerity and humor.
