Actress Jung So-min once again proved her worth as a trusted romantic comedy actor through Would You Merry Me.
On the 17th (Fri) and 18th (Sat), in episodes 3 and 4 of the SBS Fri-Sat drama Would You Merry Me (written by Lee Ha-na / directed by Song Hyun-wook, Hwang In-hyuk), Jung So-min fully immersed herself in Yoo Me-ri, showing the essence of close-to-life acting as she freely moved between everyday laughs and lingering emotions.
Earlier, Me-ri's life was upended overnight by a jeonse scam and a broken engagement, and to secure the luxury newlywed-home prize she proposed a fake-husband arrangement to Kim Woo-ju (played by Choi Woo-shik), who had the same name as her ex-fiancé, driving the plot.
In episode 3, when Woo-ju, who was pretending to be her husband, was at risk of being exposed to his family because of her, Me-ri hid in a dog house to avoid Woo-ju's aunt (played by Baek Ji-won). This scene highlighted Jung So-min's characteristic sly comic sense and provoked roaring laughter.
At the same time, Jung So-min delicately portrayed the weight of reality that cannot be covered by cheerfulness alone. Me-ri, who began working with Woo-ju's company, attended a company dinner and felt hurt when she misunderstood that Woo-ju had confessed the fake-married status to Yoon Jin-kyung (played by Shin Seul-gi). Jung So-min's natural drunk acting raised viewers' smiles.
Later, while Me-ri and Woo-ju were shooting a self wedding, she was in danger of having her identity revealed in front of coworkers. In response, Me-ri moved closer after Woo-ju's surprise kiss, heightening the sweet excitement and romantic tension.
Meanwhile, when Me-ri's mother learned of the broken engagement, her collapse added poignancy. After receiving a message from the sister of former Woo-ju (played by Seo Beom-joon) that her mother had come to the house, Me-ri swallowed her tears helplessly and released emotions she had been holding back. Jung So-min expressed the mingled feelings of injustice and sadness with subtlety and restraint, leaving a heavy aftertaste. At the end of episode 4, the real former fiancé Kim Woo-ju appeared before Me-ri, sparking curiosity about how the story will unfold.
In this way, Jung So-min firmly anchored the drama's center by expertly handling a wide emotional range from laughter to excitement to tears. Even within the romantic comedy genre, she adds dimensionality to the character by moving between detailed emotional acting and upbeat energy. After the broadcast, viewers reacted strongly, saying, "Jung So-min's dialect acting is also superb," "Giving the doll to Woo-ju makes the backstory more perfect because it was Me-ri," "Me-ri is so kind. Why did she give everything away?" "Jung So-min acts so well. We're crying and laughing because of Me-ri; it's chaos," "I'm totally for the Jung So-min and first love pairing. It's so thrilling."
