Actor Ashton Kutcher shared candid thoughts about his model-like looks.
On the 18th (local time), Page Six reported that Ashton Kutcher admitted his model-like appearance had actually hindered his acting career.
According to the report, he talked about the new series "The Beauty" during a panel discussion at New York Comic Con last Saturday. He said of why he took the role in this work, "Every role is influenced to some extent by your appearance. Appearance is a very important part of expressing that character."
Kutcher added, "Some roles I got because of my looks, and conversely there were roles I didn't get because of my looks," saying, "Sometimes that's frustrating. I've missed parts that carry weight, like unlucky or tormented characters, because of my appearance."
He also said he now understands the logic of casting. He added, "Movies and dramas tell stories with images. Those images have to evoke certain emotions in the audience."
Kutcher described his character in "The Beauty" as "complex and subtle," and explained, "I can't reveal too much, but most of the cast project some of their own anxieties or inner things they want to hide into their performances. It allows them to bring anxieties they would never show people up through their acting."
Kutcher also commented on one of the series' themes, the "double standard of cosmetic procedures." He rhetorically asked, "Why is it acceptable for people to go to the dentist to straighten and fix their teeth, but criticized when they make their face or nose more beautiful?"
Ashton Kutcher was the former husband of actress Demi Moore, and is currently married to actress Mila Kunis; they have two children.
