Dong-ju Seo recalled that she changed drastically after her late father, Se-won Seo, was jailed.
On the YouTube channel Wiracle on Oct. 17, a video titled "Dad's death, mother's battle with cancer... how she learned to love life amid failure and despair" was posted.
When Park Wi brought up family matters with guest Dong-ju Seo, Seo opened up, saying, "When I was young, I think I was still in a very good environment. We were well-off, and my parents' relationship wasn't bad, and there were certainly many good memories."
She continued, "But starting in 2002, after my father returned from jail, I clearly felt that many things had changed. He came back like a completely different person," adding, "So I think that was when the crisis in our family began."
About her father's death, she said, "Then my father passed away, and the shock was so great that I didn't know what I should feel. I normally live by suppressing my emotions, so I didn't know what to do."
She added honestly, "At that time my feeling was 'somewhat empty.' I realized a person can disappear in an instant. Until then, my father and I had a strained, love-hate relationship. When that person suddenly disappeared, there was nowhere for these emotions to go. I had to direct feelings of hatred, dislike, resentment, hurt and disappointment at him, but he was gone, so it felt empty." She added, "So even though I'm not someone who cries a lot, I think I cried a lot."
Meanwhile, the late Se-won Seo remarried in 2016 and moved to Cambodia, where he died in April 2023 at age 67. He died of cardiac arrest while receiving treatment at a local hospital, and his family held two funerals in Cambodia and Korea.
