Former baseball player Kim Tae-gyun stirred controversy by mentioning ex-boyfriend Oh Seung-hwan in front of Girls' Generation member and actress Kwon Yu-ri.
On Oct. 17, the Tving show "True Fan Zone 2" featured Kim Tae-gyun, Kwon Yu-ri and Song Sang-eun. They were fans of the Hanwha Eagles and were scheduled to cheer for the Hanwha Eagles in the 2025 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO Playoffs game against the Samsung Lions.
During the broadcast Kim Tae-gyun asked Kwon Yu-ri, "What do you think about Samsung and Hanwha playing?" Kwon Yu-ri hesitated because she had acknowledged a relationship in 2015 with Samsung Lions pitcher Oh Seung-hwan but they broke up after six months, then replied, "Of course it's fun. How are they so close like this? It's as if it's staged."
Kim Tae-gyun ultimately crossed a line. Kim Tae-gyun said, "I even attended the retirement ceremony," indirectly referring to Oh Seung-hwan. Oh Seung-hwan held his retirement ceremony on Sept. 30 at Daegu Samsung Lions Park during the 2025 KBO League game between the Samsung Lions and the KIA Tigers. The game was attended by Kim Tae-gyun, Lee Dae-ho, Jeong Geun-woo and Choo Shin-soo, who supported their longtime friend's retirement and second life.
When Kim Tae-gyun indirectly mentioned Oh Seung-hwan, Kwon Yu-ri looked embarrassed but did not say much.
After the broadcast aired, many internet users expressed displeasure at Kim Tae-gyun's behavior. They pointed out that the relationship was 10 years ago and that because Oh Seung-hwan is already married and has a family, the remark was inappropriate for both Kwon Yu-ri and Oh Seung-hwan.
