Comedians Song Eun-yi and Kim Sook's concert "VIVO Show with Friends" was embroiled in controversy after a sudden notice the day before the performance that cooling would be unavailable.
On the 16th, the YouTube channel "VIVO TV - VIVO TV" posted an announcement titled "Urgent notice for audience members attending VIVO Show with Friends." The organizer said, "Currently, due to the replacement period for the Olympic Hall's HVAC units, it is difficult for the cooling units to operate properly," and warned, "If the temperature and humidity are high on the day of the performance and large numbers of people gather, the interior may feel somewhat warm." It added, "We recommend preparing several layers of thin clothing that are easy to put on and take off," and apologized, "We are sorry for the inconvenience. We will repay you with a good performance."
But with the news arriving only a day before the performance, audience members' complaints erupted. Negative reactions followed, including, "Shouldn't this have been told before ticketing? Is it right to announce it the day before?", "It takes several hours round-trip to get there; I'm worried the venue will be hot," and "Just refund us without a cancellation fee."
As the controversy spread, the promoter Content Lab VIVO issued a statement on the 17th correcting the situation. VIVO said, "We apologize for causing concern to the audience with the sudden notice," and explained, "The Olympic Hall's air handling system and air circulation system are currently operating normally, maintaining proper temperatures and a comfortable environment."
It added, "The phrase 'HVAC replacement work' was not accurate. To be precise, the transition between heating and cooling was underway, and there is no problem with holding the performance," and apologized again, "We apologize repeatedly for causing confusion by choosing words without sufficient care." It also added, "Those who wish to refund their tickets can do so without a fee."
In the end the incident was wrapped up as a haphazard episode, and netizen reactions were generally positive. Various opinions followed, such as, "It's a shame the first notice was posted that way," "It's fortunate the feedback was fast," and "They properly warded off bad luck for the 10th anniversary," but most responded, "Glad it was resolved well."
Meanwhile, "VIVO Show with Friends" is a performance commemorating the 10th anniversary of the podcast "Secret Guarantee" and will be held from the 17th through the 19th at Olympic Hall in Olympic Park, Songpa District, Seoul. The performance runs about 120 minutes with no intermission, and tickets are A seats 99,000 won, S seats 121,000 won, and R seats 143,000 won.
