Bestselling author Baek Se-hee, who wrote "I Want to Die but I Want to Eat Tteokbokki," has died.
On the 17th, the Korea Organ Donation Agency (KODA) said Baek Se-hee died on the 16th after saving five lives through brain-death organ donation.
Baek Se-hee was declared brain-dead and donated her heart, lungs, liver and both kidneys. The circumstances that led to her brain death have not been disclosed.
Born in 1990 in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, the second of three daughters, Baek Se-hee majored in creative writing at university and worked at a publishing company for five years. During that time she received counseling and psychiatric treatment to heal personal wounds and pain.
Baek Se-hee became known for "I Want to Die but I Want to Eat Tteokbokki," which recounts her diagnosis of dysthymia (a mild depressive condition that persists long term) and the counseling process with her doctor. The book, introduced as one read by BTS member RM, sold about 600,000 copies in South Korea for volumes 1 and 2, and was translated and exported to 25 countries.
Afterwards, Baek Se-hee published "There Will Probably Be No One Who Loves You As Much As I Do" and "I Want to Write, I Don't Want to Write," and actively engaged with readers through talk concerts and lectures.
