Actor Heo Young-ran shared an update that she closed her business and returned to Seoul to act.
On the 16th, a video titled "A famed actor who hit the jackpot in business, gave it all up and suddenly moved to Seoul — the real reason.. 'Soonpoong Obstetrics and Gynecology' Nurse Heo" was uploaded to the "One Mic" channel.
Heo Young-ran, who appeared in "Soonpoong Obstetrics and Gynecology" and "Age of Wanderer" and won public affection, had recently focused on business. She explained, "It was a car-wash café. I ran it for about seven years. I originally planned a car-wash, but when you wash cars you can't actively go and push the squeegee yourself all the time. So I left that to my husband and thought about what item I could do that would complement that, and I thought of a café, so I earned a barista certificate. In fact, I worked unpaid for about two months at another café. I practiced customer service. I always work hard at the tasks given to me."
She continued, "After getting married, it was a period when I wasn't very active. But there is a saying that marriage is reality. At that time my husband also did theater, and theater income isn't that high. We heard a lot that when you hit reality, the relationship can break. So we thought, since we were together we could do anything, let's try something as a side business, but that side business became the main job."
Heo Young-ran said, "Offers for work continued to come occasionally. But I couldn't do them. For various reasons I couldn't. So I kept turning them down. Because of the location — if it were Seoul it would have been different, but it was Daejeon — I ended up focusing more on that (the business). So people wondered if I wasn't doing broadcast work, but we always said our main job is acting, even if it didn't appear that way. So I really gave up all the business and came to Seoul."
She said, "Honestly, when I said I cleaned up the business and came to Seoul to act, people were surprised. They're happy I'm returning to acting, but they were really surprised I gave up the business. But honestly, what I always think about myself is that while the future matters, being happy day to day is very important. I know my husband loves acting. When I wondered what I could do well, I thought I could do well if I acted."
She went on, "Opportunities never kept coming continuously. After doing one project there would be a resting time, and that left a lot of regret. Now we're older. It's not necessary to always be the lead or always appear in something. It's not like we must only do films or must do something specific. If we can do the acting we like, work with good people and have even something that prevents the passionate fire inside us from going out, we can do it anytime. Also, having experienced the pain of self-employment made my inside really strong. Isn't that what acting is? It's not about appearance."
In particular, Heo Young-ran expressed gratitude toward the public who still remember her for her characters in "Soonpoong Obstetrics and Gynecology" and "Age of Wanderer," saying, "I'm so grateful. In a way, I think it's very happy that there are works that come to mind when people think of that actor."
She added, "I also opened a YouTube channel. I haven't uploaded much, but I still have 124 subscribers. That's so nice. How did it reach 100 when I haven't posted much? I'm honestly very grateful. And I'm sorry. You subscribed but there's not much to watch." She added, "I haven't received any (broadcast) offers yet. Please offer me work. I don't have an agency yet, so right now I want to work hard again but I don't know the route. DM me on Instagram."
