Tao (Huang Zitao, 32), formerly of the idol group EXO, and singer-actor Xu Yiyang (28), a former SM Entertainment trainee, got married. They are China's first idol couple.
According to local outlets including the Pengmian News on the 17th, Tao and Xu Yiyang held their wedding on the afternoon of the 16th in Beijing, China.
Local reports said 40 Cadillacs handled shuttle service for guests from the airport to the hotel and the wedding venue.
Tao livestreamed the wedding, and about 16 million people watched. Tao also sold goods during the livestream. Some 2,000 chocolate gift boxes, 2,000 bottles of wedding wine, and 520 diffusers were sold, and reports said they sold out immediately. Several iPhone 17s were given away by lottery.
The wedding was reportedly planned entirely by Xu Yiyang. Xu wore a massive 500-carat diamond ring, and said it was "made of glass, not a real diamond."
Tao tossed a bouquet made of broccoli. The Pingmian News said, "Xu Yiyang believes broccoli brings happiness, wealth, joy, and all good things."
In the livestream, Tao said the wedding "was held modestly," adding, "It wasn't too crowded or too flashy."
Tao debuted as a member of EXO in 2012, then returned to China and has been active as a solo singer and actor. Xu Yiyang was an SM Entertainment trainee and likewise returned to China, where she worked under Longtao Entertainment, founded by Tao. The two were rumored to be dating starting in 2020 and completed their marriage registration in Dec. 2024.
There was interest in whether former EXO members of Chinese nationality would attend, but Lu Han and Zhang Yixing did not appear at the wedding. Reports said they could not attend due to reasons such as concert preparations and a knee injury.
