On the Oct. 15 episode of KBS 2TV variety show The Return of Superman (hereinafter "The Return of Superman"), scenes showed Kim Yoon-ji and Ella spending the big Chuseok holiday.
That day, mother-in-law Kim Young-im, who visited the mart with daughter-in-law Kim Yoon-ji and granddaughter Ella, drew attention with trendy fashion that made it hard to believe she is 72. Kim Yoon-ji said, "My mother is a fashionista. By the way, those pants are my pants," and explained, "It's the first time my mother, Ella and I have gone out together. The three of us came out with a casually effortless look. We came out in an unstyled autumn look."
When asked why they visited the mart, Kim Yoon-ji said, "Today is the big holiday Chuseok. Last Chuseok I was still recovering, and I couldn't do it last year. This year I wanted to show things like making pancakes together and that our big family lives like this," and added, "The three generations came shopping together for the first time."
In particular, Kim Yoon-ji said, "The dish we never miss on holidays is mung bean pancakes. My mother is famous as a big spender in Samseong-dong," introducing Kim Young-im's exceptional scale.
Actually shopping, Kim Young-im filled her cart with ingredients without hesitation. At this point Kim Yoon-ji asked, "Would 20 servings of glass noodles be enough?" but Kim Young-im replied, "That won't be enough. You have to buy three," adding to the surprise.
Kim Young-im bought enough japchae ingredients for a staggering 60 servings. Regarding this, Kim Yoon-ji explained, "Besides our family, we share with the neighbors and the building manager downstairs, we give it all away."
Back home, Kim Young-im suggested, "Let's fry about 300 mung bean pancakes," and prepared five bowls of batter herself. She also completed 60 servings of japchae in no time, and Kim Yoon-ji began frying pancakes with her sister-in-law.
Their parents are close friends like siblings, and Kim Yoon-ji and her sister-in-law also grew up like real sisters. Boasting a perfect rapport while frying pancakes, the two reminisced about the past.
At that time, Kim Yoon-ji asked, "Mom treats me like a daughter, so how do you feel, sister?" The sister-in-law confessed, "I feel like I'm the one not being treated as a daughter," which drew laughter.
Kim Yoon-ji, who is said to receive lots of love from her mother-in-law, laughed and said, "My sister half jokingly, half seriously always says the daughter-in-law of this house is me."
After the family enjoyed the finished food, they warmed hearts by taking the pre-packed mung bean pancakes and japchae and sharing them with residents of the villa.
