Singer Jay Park sparked controversy after selecting the song "MOMMAE" at an event held to raise breast cancer awareness, and cold reactions to the event are continuing.
Love Your W 2025, held at a hotel in Seoul on the 15th, was the largest domestic campaign event to raise breast cancer awareness, hosted by fashion magazine W Korea.
The event, held in the form of a gala dinner and party, featured dozens of stars who added glamour. However, sources say there were no mentions related to breast cancer.
In particular, Jay Park, who performed on the celebratory stage, passionately sang his 2015 release "MOMMAE." The lyrics directly describe a woman's body and even explicitly mention ample breasts, prompting criticism from some that it directly contradicts the event's purpose of raising breast cancer awareness.
A breast cancer patient lamented in a comment, "I wonder whether the celebrities who came here or the organizers even searched for a single 'b' in breast cancer. This kind of party feels like mockery to patients." Another netizen said, "They should drop the word breast cancer and just hold the party they want. From the perspective of someone who lost a family member to breast cancer, the drinking and the 'MOMMAE' stage are cringe-worthy."
There were also structural criticisms of the event itself. Unlike overseas breast cancer charity events, critics pointed out that the pink ribbon or a pink dress code was not followed at all. Additionally, the donations the organizers emphasize amounted to 1.1 billion won accumulated over 20 years, leading to bitter comments such as "that is far too small compared to the scale of this party" and "a donation campaign that is all show and no substance."
On the other hand, there are opinions such as "What matters at a charity event is raising funds. What kind of party it is does not matter," and "In any case, the participation of celebrities is desirable for raising breast cancer awareness."
