"Ballad emperor" Shin Seung-hoon has been selected as a figure who illuminated the history of Korean popular music.
Shin Seung-hoon was named on the "Golden Disc Powerhouse 40" announced today (16th) on the official website and SNS channels of the Golden Disc Awards.
"Golden Disc Powerhouse" is an index that selected 40 influential figures who made significant marks on the history of Korean popular music from 1986, when the first Golden Disc Awards began, through 2025, ahead of the Golden Disc Awards' 40th anniversary in 2026. To enhance credibility, the "Golden Disc Powerhouse selection committee," composed of 50 music industry insiders including song producers, composers, lyricists, music producers, media and content officials, news reporters and critics, directly made the selections.
Shin Seung-hoon debuted in 1990 with "You reflected in a smile" and achieved a record album sales of 1.4 million copies upon debut, appearing like a comet in the music scene. From his first to seventh albums he achieved seven consecutive million-sellers, rising instantly to top-star status. He claimed the irreplaceable "ballad emperor" seat by presenting numerous hits such as "Invisible Love," "Like the First Feeling," "For a Long Time After That," "After a Long Farewell," "You're Just a Little Higher Than Me," "Promises I Can't Keep," "Like Someone in a Legend," and "If I Can Love and Still Part."

With deep ties to the Golden Disc Awards, Shin Seung-hoon lifted the grand prize trophy in 1992 and 1993, and he has won the main award as many as 10 times.
A living witness to the history of Korean popular music, Shin Seung-hoon released his 12th full-length album SINCERELY MELODIES on the 35th anniversary of his debut on the 23rd of last month. SINCERELY MELODIES contains 11 tracks, including the double title tracks "The Gravity Called You" and "TRULY," which paint Shin Seung-hoon's own definitions of love and parting, each with distinct narratives. Shin Seung-hoon participated in producing and composing all the tracks, concentrating his musical capabilities to achieve a high level of completion akin to watching a well-made film.
Moreover, Shin Seung-hoon led generational unity with flexible comeback promotions suited to the digital content era, including music variety programs that foreground live performance, news, and web variety shows.
