Ha Seung-ri had no time to feel the excitement of love before facing family problems.
In the third episode of the KBS 1TV daily drama Marie and Her Three Daddies (directed by Seo Yong-soo, written by Kim Hong-joo), which aired the evening of the 15th, the conflict between Kang Mari (played by Ha Seung-ri), who was caught by her mother contacting her separated father Kang Min-bo (played by Hwang Dong-joo), and her mother Ju Si-ra (played by Park Eun-hye) surfaced.
In yesterday's broadcast, Mari delayed answering Lee Kang-se (played by Hyunwoo), who proposed cohabitation, saying, "What kind of relationship are we to live together?" Meanwhile, Si-ra was mortified after receiving a surprise event from President Hong, but she resolved to meet him a few more times because of his wealth.
Just as a romantic atmosphere was about to fall over Mari and her mother, Eom Gi-boon (played by Jung Ae-ri), who is related to Mari's birth, subtly probed Si-ra, saying, "Mari will do her internship at the main school, right?" But Si-ra said, "I will take responsibility. Isn't that how it should be?" and felt offended, and Si-ra's muttered remark, "Aunt, you've been comfortable until now, haven't you?" made viewers anticipate future developments.
Then an incident occurred that caused Mari and Si-ra's emotions to explode. While cleaning the postpartum care center's duty room, Si-ra discovered an international package addressed to Mari in the name of her ex-husband Min-bo. Feeling betrayed by the daughter she trusted, Si-ra rushed to Mari and slapped her, then pressed her for answers. Mari said, "I lost my father without even knowing why," and "Even though I didn't say it, I missed my father a lot," which pained viewers.
Gi-boon and son-in-law Jin Ki-sik (played by Gong Jung-hwan), who witnessed Mari and Si-ra's fight, sharpened their words at each other because Gi-boon pretended not to know Mari had been hit. When Ki-sik confronted him, Gi-boon retorted, "Why do you care so much about Mari's affairs?" Ki-sik replied, "When I see Mari, it feels like looking at me," which pricked Gi-boon, who had a past of persuading medical students, including himself, to donate sperm. He added, "I will care for her as much as I can," raising the tension.
Meanwhile, Kang-se felt hurt that Mari was avoiding him after his cohabitation remark, but he soon took her to a graduation party. Later, when a drunken Mari asked, "Senior, do you like me?" he evasively replied, "Can you live with someone you don't even like?" Kang-se, curious about Mari's true feelings, heard her say she was grateful to the senior and showed a disappointed expression, revealing the bittersweet excitement and regret of unrequited love.
Worried after the argument that Mari did not come home until late, Si-ra showed displeasure when a very drunk Mari arrived home in the car of friend Ahn Soo-seon (played by Lee Ji-yeon). But Si-ra learned from Soo-seon that Mari had been agonizing over her father's situation and feared hurting her mother, and she cried. The day's broadcast drew viewers in with the actors' realistic performances and heightened anticipation for the next episode.
Viewers who watched the broadcast reacted enthusiastically, saying, "When I see Hyunwoo, I can't help but smile. Fighting," "Mari and Soo-seon's back-and-forth is great," "It's nice to see many middle-aged actors who act well," "I found an entertaining daily drama!," "Ha Seung-ri's acting is very relatable," and "I hope they show more of the various characters in the drama."
KBS 1TV's Marie and Her Three Daddies episode 4 will air tonight (16th) at 8:30 p.m. Also, a special marathon broadcast of episodes 1–4 is scheduled for the 17th (Fri.) from 7:40 p.m., and starting Saturday the 18th, for four weeks, viewers can catch weekday episodes in a special broadcast every Saturday from 3:15 p.m. to 5 p.m.
