Actress Song Ok-sook candidly opened up about stories involving her husband and children.
On the 14th, the YouTube channel "Song Seung-hwan's Wonderful Life" uploaded a video titled "Actress Song Ok-sook Episode 5 (A life matured further while raising three children)." In the video, Song Ok-sook calmly recounted life with her husband, CEO Lee Jong-in, and anecdotes related to her children.
That day Song Seung-hwan asked, "You have been with your husband for a long time. After the Sewol ferry disaster, the diving bell drew media attention and 'Song Ok-sook's husband' became a topic. Does he still go into the water?"
In response, Song Ok-sook said, "He still goes into the water. It's just that his health is a bit poor, so he can't do as much as before. Still, he has his place in the industry." She added after Song Seung-hwan said, "It's a relief that he can still go into the water."
Song Ok-sook also spoke candidly about her children. She confessed, "On the family register there is one son and two daughters, but the child I gave birth to is one daughter. The son is the child of my husband and his ex-wife, and the other is an adopted daughter." She continued, "I had my first child at 41 and then became pregnant with a second child but miscarried. The doctor said he hoped I would not think of having more children. Hearing that felt like being sentenced to 'the end as a woman.'"
Song Ok-sook went on to explain, "At that time my husband suggested, what if we help a child nearby who needs support. There was a child in the family who had nowhere to go because her parents divorced, so we adopted her. Because she was a girl, I thought she could live like a sister with my daughter." The adopted child was 8 at the time, and now the older daughter is 27 and the younger daughter is 25.
She added, "I have an aggressive personality, so raising an adopted child with love was not easy, but I had to be fair to the child. In the end it was a process I needed to become a human being." She also emphasized, "I learned that children should be raised with love, not conditions or deals."
Finally, she said she is strongly encouraging her adult children to marry, adding frankly, "It is actually uncomfortable when young people choose not to marry."
Meanwhile, Song Ok-sook married a U.S. service member in Korea in 1986, divorced after 11 years, and later remarried Lee Jong-in, CEO of Alpha Diving Technology. Lee Jong-in is well known as the developer of the "diving bell" used in search operations during the 2014 Sewol ferry disaster.
