Yujin and Ji Hyun-woo deliver pre-storm tension with a chilling, tense standoff in the "decisive negotiation."
MBN's Wednesday-Thursday miniseries "First Lady" (written by Kim Hyung-wan, directed by Lee Ho-hyun, produced by Studio Gidam Co., Ltd., Artist Studio, Roadshow Plus Co., Ltd.) proved its solid popularity by landing in the top 10 on FlixPatrol, a global OTT content ranking site, as of Oct. 14 in Netflix's "today Korea TOP 10 series" category. In addition, on the first week of Oct., TV buzz analysis firm Good Data Corporation ranked it in the TOP8 for "drama TV-OTT search reaction" and listed "First Lady characters" in the TOP6 for "drama search issue keywords," placing it at the center of hot public attention.
In the previous episode, First Lady Cha Soo-yeon (played by Yujin) was shocked after discovering that Lee Hwa-jin (played by Han Soo-ah), whom she tried to expose for an affair to counter the divorce suit with president-elect Hyun Min-chul (played by Ji Hyun-woo), was pregnant. Moreover, Hyun Min-chul was stunned to realize that his wife Cha Soo-yeon was the driving force who strongly blocked the No. 1 campaign pledge, the "Do Tae-hoon special law."
Meanwhile, in episode 7 of "First Lady," airing today, Oct. 15, Yujin and Ji Hyun-woo seize attention with a pressure-filled one-on-one meeting described as "a desperate, pressure-packed confrontation" where they face a critical decision amid tightening tension. In the scene, Cha Soo-yeon and Hyun Min-chul sit facing each other in a cold atmosphere. Cha Soo-yeon, with a steely, almost icy gaze, delivers a single sharp line to Hyun Min-chul, who, unable to contain himself, buries his face in his hands, revealing bewilderment and despair. Both unleash cutting barbs as if turned dark, and all eyes are on the outcome of the "decisive negotiation," which casts a cruel fate.
Notably, before filming the "desperate, pressure-packed confrontation" scene, Yujin and Ji Hyun-woo caught attention by easing tension with light conversation and smiles. Then, as seasoned actors, they actively discussed the scene to raise its completeness and poured their efforts into it. Once filming began, Yujin and Ji Hyun-woo instantly immersed themselves as Cha Soo-yeon and Hyun Min-chul, transforming completely; their expressions, speech, and vocal tones shifted to deliver a flawless, intense standoff that left the set breathless.
The production team said, "Yujin and Ji Hyun-woo proved their mesmerizing acting by generating explosive tension with just their eyes," and added, "Watch the uncompromising divorce war to see how the First Lady, who played a hidden card, and the president-elect, who restrains his emotions, clash with dark charisma."
