HYBE and Geffen Records' global girl group KATSEYE is still enjoying strong popularity on the U.S. Billboard main charts.
According to the latest U.S. Billboard chart released on Oct. 14 (local time) for the Oct. 18 issue, KATSEYE's second EP "BEAUTIFUL CHAOS (뷰티풀 카오스)" rose nine spots from the previous week to No. 30 on the Billboard 200, marking another rebound in rank. Since first entering the Billboard 200 at No. 4 immediately after the album's release (July 12 issue), it has remained on the chart for 15 consecutive weeks.
On Billboard's Hot 100, the track "Gabriela" from "BEAUTIFUL CHAOS" rose to No. 54. Even as pop star Taylor Swift's new studio album The Life of a Showgirl swept the chart from No. 1 through No. 12 and rankings shifted dramatically, "Gabriela" showed steady staying power.
On the global charts, which rank songs based on streaming counts from more than 200 countries and territories worldwide, their long-running power stands out even more. "Gabriela" ranked No. 29 on the Billboard Global 200 (16 weeks) and No. 27 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. (16 weeks). Another hit, "Gnarly," was No. 92 and No. 99 respectively, placing on both charts for 23 consecutive weeks.
That level of momentum from KATSEYE, which has just entered its second year since debut, is meaningful because it reflects combined gains in U.S. audio streaming and sales (downloads) data as well as radio airplay.
In fact, "Gabriela" hit No. 17 this week on Billboard's Pop Airplay chart, marking its highest position to date. The song entered the chart at No. 37 on the Aug. 17 issue following their Lollapalooza Chicago stage, then climbed to No. 34, 28, 24, 22, 21 and 18, moving up nearly every week.
This illustrates their popular appeal born of Bang Si-hyuk chairman's "K-pop methodology" and the localization achievements of HYBE America. KATSEYE was finally selected through the global audition project The Debut: Dream Academy, which drew 120,000 applicants worldwide, and debuted in the U.S. based on HYBE America's training and development (T&D) system.
KATSEYE will embark on their first solo tour, "BEAUTIFUL CHAOS," with 16 shows in 13 North American cities starting Nov. 15. In April next year, they will also perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, the world's largest music festival.
