Rowoon described the preparations he made for "The Murky Stream".
On the 15th at a café in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, an interview was held with Rowoon, the leading actor of Disney+'s original series "The Murky Stream."
"The Murky Stream" (directed by Chu Chang-min/written by Cheon Seong-il) is a destiny-forging action drama set on Gyeonggang, where all of Joseon's money and goods gather, telling the stories of people who dreamed different dreams to right a corrupt world and live like human beings.
Rowoon played the role of the protagonist Jang Si-yul, delivering a passionate performance as a troublemaker and undergoing his most intense acting transformation since his debut.
In particular, Rowoon drew attention with rough bare-handed action from the start. Asked about the preparation related to this, he said, "I attended an action academy consistently from two months before filming. Rather than what I prepared, I really talked a lot with the director."
He went on, "In front of the director, some indescribable energy made me feel like it would be okay to tell my life story. And I felt I couldn't lie much. So I talked a lot with the director about the ups and downs of life. I drank a lot with Ji-hwan hyung. We built a human connection," he joked.
Asked about physical preparations, he explained, "Around that time I shot an underwear commercial. That involved losing a lot of body fat, and they said they wanted the body to feel like a street cat. Not a groomed look, but a wild feel. So I built my body and showed the director, and he said, 'It's so pretty.' So I ate two hamburgers. Since I had a solid six-pack, they said it felt unrealistic."
However, he said he has now successfully completed the diet. Rowoon said, "I lost 8kg in a week. I just didn't eat. My friends asked me, 'What was so tasty?' The food my mom made was tasty. It was before I went to the military," he said, drawing laughter.
