Actor Park Seo-ham shared his thoughts about working with Rowoon and Shin Ye Eun.
On the 15th at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, an interview was held with Park Seo-ham, a lead actor in Disney+'s original series "The Murky Stream."
"The Murky Stream" (directed by Choo Chang-min / written by Chun Sung-il) is a destiny-forging action drama set on the Gyeonggang, where all of Joseon's money and goods gather, telling the stories of people who dream different dreams to set right a corrupt world and live like humans.
In "The Murky Stream," Park Seo-ham plays Jeong-cheon, a jong-sagwan newly assigned to the Podocheong after ranking first in the mu-gwa exam for his outstanding martial arts skills, and he reunites with his longtime friend Jang Si-yul (played by Rowoon), showcasing bro-mance chemistry.
Park Seo-ham spoke about Rowoon, with whom he worked closely: "I have known Rowoon for about 12 or 13 years. I always thought Rowoon was cool. Since his trainee days—being tall could make dancing difficult, but he achieved it through effort. He has grown with each project. We met again after a long time for 'The Murky Stream,' and I felt he had really become a great actor. So I always told Rowoon, 'You are my role model. I'll become someone cool like you,'" he said.
He continued, "Even when filming together he always considers me. The reason is he cheered me on like, 'Hyung, I really hope you take 100 and do well.' I thought he was a really cool friend. Even when it wasn't my scene, Rowoon would go watch the scene and I learned a lot. I think he's truly cool and someone with many things to learn from. To act like that, to be loving and passionate—that's what I realized," he said.
He added, "We weren't trainees together, but we're close and did idol activities together. He was cool even then. Now he has really become a fine man; I thought, he's truly amazing, constantly improving. And he's easily embarrassed, so he gets shy when praised. Even so, he resolutely says, 'I will really become like you,'" he laughed.
Asked if he gave any advice about the military, he said, "I don't give advice. I just learn a lot. But with the military, I think he'll come back an even cooler person. So I said that. 'I think you'll come back really cool,'" he said, creating a warm moment.
He also spoke about working with Shin Ye Eun. Park Seo-ham said, "She's in the same agency, but it was our first time filming together. We didn't have many scenes together on set, but what was surprising was that there are people who can emit a lovely energy just by who they are. What was really impressive was that no actor is ever fully satisfied with their own performance. Even if the director says it's good, if Shin Ye Eun feels dissatisfied she'll say, 'I want to do it again.' That's natural. In the beginning I didn't have that courage. Because I was nervous, I couldn't think that way, but watching Shin Ye Eun, she can be decisive with herself. I thought she has a perfectionist tendency. She asked bravely, 'Can I try too?' and I learned from that," he added.
